School Closure

The outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19) has now been classified as a pandemic and the number of confirmed cases in the UK has risen in recent weeks. To minimise the further spread of coronavirus on Wednesday 18th March 2020 the Prime Minister announced the closure of all schools and early years settings in England.

Barnwell Academy and Daycare will close from Monday 23rd March 2020 until further notice.

 Key Workers

To support the efforts in reducing the transmission of coronavirus the government has asked schools, where possible, to remain open for those children of key workers whose work is critical to the COVID-19 response.

Many parents categorised as a key worker will be able to ensure their child is kept at home with the aim that every child who can be safely cared for at home should be. The government advice remains the fewer children in educational settings, the lower the risk that the virus can spread and infect vulnerable individuals in the wider community.

In the coming weeks we will have limited capacity to provide childcare for pupils of key workers. Our reduction in staff and ensuring we can provide a safe environment leads us to request that only parents needing emergency childcare contact the school office on 0191 5844440 to discuss their requirements. Alternatively please complete our childcare request form  which can be found on our 'Letters' page on this website and on our free Barnwell Academy App and email it to barnwell.primary@schools.sunderland.gov.uk.  As we receive further and updated advice from the DFE and the local authority we can then plan and deliver on an individual need.
